About Us - Meet Cindy Veenstra
Cindy P. Veenstra is the director for Veenstra and Associates. She earned the Ph.D. in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan. Dr. Veenstra's research includes the development of a model for engineering student success and the application of this model to first-year engineering retention at the University of Michigan. She believes that merging of concepts from both the Process Engineering and the Education fields will lead to a more comprehensive approach for a university's strategic plan for student success. She has published over twenty papers in this field.
Dr. Veenstra has engineering experience in both industry and academia. She has extensive experience as a project quality manager, quality engineer, and statistician. She has consulted with major companies on quality improvement and has provided training workshops on quality systems. She has also served on the faculty at Eastern Michigan University, teaching Statistical Quality Control and Reliability Engineering. Her experiences in industry and academia have given her a depth of knowledge about process improvement methodology which has influenced her approach to improving college student success.
Dr. Veenstra is a Fellow of the American Society for Quality (ASQ). She is the Chair-elect for ASQ's Education Division. She is also a director in ASEE's College-Industry Partnerships Division. She is the associate editor of the Quality Approaches in Higher Education supplement of the Journal for Quality and Participation and the advising editor for the ASQ Higher Education Brief. She has published papers in the Journal of Engineering Education, Advances in Engineering Education, the Annals for Research in Engineering Education and the Journal for Quality and Participation. One of her papers was honored with a nomination for best paper at an American Society for Engineering Education national conference. She is currently a member of ASQ, ASEE, ASHE and SME.
